Bathing purifies not only the body but also the soul. What's more, public bathing is an act of social interaction. Whether  in the Turkish hamam, the Russian banja or the Icelandic hotpot, bathing together shapes identity.

The bathhouse is an intimate place. Going there only seems to turn the private into the public. After all, what's done and discussed there does not pass beyond its humid walls.
